Tony Stark is often seen as a futurist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s an excellent planner and is said to be cursed with visions of the future. However, in Infinity War, he had a sweeter, more pleasant dream of his life in future with his love interest, Pepper Potts.

The Russo Brothers addressed Stark’s dream where he had a child with Pepper and if this has any significance to Stark’s future in the MCU. When a fan asked the Russo Brothers if Tony’s dream was just a dream or a possible vision from an alternate future, they responded with:

“It was a dream but dreams are mysterious.”

This doesn’t reveal anything but it does tease that Tony might have been onto something with the dream and though Pepper denied being pregnant, her pending nuptials with Stark might have an impact on their family status.

While speaking about Pepper’s relationship with Tony in the Infinity War magazine, Gwyneth Paltrow said,

“Pepper and Tony have had a real long journey together. She obviously starts as his dutiful assistant, and then the relationship evolves, and now this decade later they’re married, and they have a child. Their relationship has evolved in all of the ways that great romances evolve.”

This development does make sense for Avengers 4, which is assumed to include a lot of Time Travel. If you think about it, Thanos is someone who wants to improve the quality of by wiping out half the population and in the Infinity War, he succeeded in fulfilling that. Stark’s vision could be a result of the snap. Thanos did tell Gamora in the film that life on her planet has improved drastically since he attacked and killed half of the population. This means that Stark’s vision might be an outcome of Thanos’ snap.

Reversing Thanos’ snap might take away the lives built by Pepper and Tony, as shown in the dream where they have a child. How will the rest of the Avengers take down Thanos in Avengers 4? How will MCU end Tony’s Iron Man onscreen now that his contract is over? Only time has all the answers.

Avengers 4 premiers in theaters next year.
