With the release of NetherRealm Studios’ Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2013, years of mediocrity of DC Comics-based games came to an end. Featuring a roster of high-rollers from the DC Universe(and some others!), the character-driven story brought the game great reviews. It also featured in a whole list of organisations’ best fighting game of the year awards.

Since it’s release, it has become something of a juggernaut. With the release of the much anticipated Injustice 2 in 2017, the franchise has gained even more applause and acclaim. The story now stays focused on the conflict between Superman and Batman of one Earth instead of multiple worlds. Although unfortunately, the comic book tie-in of the same name ended recently, the franchise is going as strong as ever. There seem to be strong signs of a sequel.

With so many big-shots from DC duking it out on a single platform, fans regularly get into scream-fests about who the strongest characters are. We came up with our very own list of the 7 characters we thought were the strongest.

1)Scorpion

A NetherRealm game without a Mortal Kombat cameo is not possible. Scorpion appears as a DLC in Injustice, as a nod to the Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.

A fan favourite, Scorpion is well suited for this type of gameplay except he feels somewhat faster. He has a whole set of special moves making him one of the most all rounded fighters of the game. His traditional Spear has been converted to a meter burn though.

2)Swamp Thing

Despite being so popular in the late 80s, Swamp Thing was an unexpected entrant for the Injustice 2 roster. His entry got a lot of fans much, ore invested and he brought in a whole set of new fans.

The big, lumbering Swamp Things plays exactly like you’d want him to. His moves focus on full-screen grabs, air counters and restricting movement of opponents.

3)Raphael

Another great inclusion to the game that proves that NetherRealms gets what fans want is Raphael from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Although others from TMNT were included as well, Raphael is possibly the best one. He has a lot of combos and is loaded with parries. The Turtles are great together, but if someone made me choose, you already know my choice.

4)Darkseid

One of the greatest DC villains, Darkseid was included as a DLC character upon release. Though he is missing from the main storyline, his addition makes the game that much better.

A naturally powerful character, Darkseid’s Omega Beams can target opponents from anywhere on the screen. Oh, and he can also launch an exploding Parademon.

5)Superman

Despite displaying a strength that can only be described as raw and unbridled, Superman is not the strongest character in Injustice 2. Why? Well, he keeps losing.

Of course, he is a competent fighter, his move set filled with command grabs and he undeniably uses his Kryptonian abilities to the best, he still a fairly simple fighter. He feels held back.

6)Aquaman

Being a joke for many years, Aquaman had a lot to prove. His appearance in Injustice: Gods Among Us proved his capability. He is the ruler of Atlantis and he holds nothing back while fighting.

Wielding his trident and using aspects of ocean life, Aquaman easily features in the top tier fighters list. He was so OP at the time of the release of Injustice 2 that his bounce on his tentacle grab meter burn had to be removed post-release to balance him out.

7)Wonder Woman

Though she wasn’t a very impressive character in Injustice: Gods Among Us, Injustice 2 has made her one of the best characters to play. Her awkward character power of swapping between her lasso or sword and shield has been simplified.

Her shield steals the show. With throws that would make Captain America jealous, an awesome dash that can be performed mid-air and a meter burn that adds a hit on return, Wonder Woman is ridiculously versatile.
