Mel Gibson was completely rejected by Hollywood after the infamous Malibu DUI arrest in 2006 during which he unleashed an anti-Semitic rant. Then in 2010, some tapes were leaked in which Gibson screamed racist remarks, including using the n-word, at his then-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva. She later accused him of physically abusing her. Mel Gibson’s career was basically finished but Robert Downey Jr pleaded forgiveness for the actor during a public speech at an award ceremony. After that incident, only a certain part of Hollywood was ready to work with him. The Jewish community still boycotts him due to his extremely anti-semitic views.

In 2016, Mel Gibson received a 10-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival where he premiered his movie, Hacksaw Ridge. The movie went on to receive six Oscar nominations. That included a nod for Gibson for best director.

Hammer’s situation is just as controversial as Mel Gibson’s. However, the actor might still have a chance to redeem himself as he hasn’t been officially prosecuted for any of the accusations.
