The second trailer for Jared Leto’s Morbius has been released by Sony and it has certainly caused some confusion among fans, sparking a few conversations. The trailer also includes a shot of Michael Keaton in character, seemingly reprising his role as The Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming. Apart from this, the trailer also uses two logos from Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchise – the OsCorp Skyscraper logo and the masthead on the Daily Bugle. If this has you, scratching your head already, wait, there’s more.

Morbius’ Latest Trailer Makes It All The Way More Confusing!

There is also a moment in the trailer where Michael Morbius is seen walking in front of a Spider-Man poster, where the superhero is apparently wearing the same Spider-Man costume as Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. Then, to top it all, Morbius himself mentions Venom in the trailers’ closing moments. In the two-and-a-half-minute trailer, the film references what seems to be four totally different franchises.

Due to all this, it is all but guaranteed that Morbius isn’t set in the MCU. For now, we have to assume that the character belongs to Sony’s universe of Marvel characters which includes Venom and the Easter eggs in the trailer seem to be an amalgamation of most Sony films. Interestingly, Spider-Man: No Way Home is co-produced by Sony alongside Marvel Studios and it’s likely that Sony might end up using it to mix their own multiverse, in addition to the one crafted by Kevin Feige.

While MCU is doing a splendid job at the moment to establish the multiverse, it’s possible that Sony might use Spider-Man: No Way Home to have their own Secret Wars moment by combining all their franchises under one single continuity. Sony boss Sanford Panitch has already stated that things will make more sense after the threequel.

“There actually is a plan,” the executive previously told Variety. “I think now maybe it’s getting a little more clear for people where we’re headed and I think when No Way Home comes out, even more will be revealed.”er all, it’s after the Spidey threequel Sony boss Sanford Panitch says things will be much clearer for fans.

Morbius will release in theatres on January 28, 2022.
