“It wasn’t right for me anymore”: Kelly Ripa Was So Self-Absorbed Even Regis Philbin Couldn’t Convince Her He Left ‘Live’ Because He’s Getting Old, Not Because of Her
Over the years, talk show host Kelly Ripa has gained a good amount of attention from the public. But just like any person, there are an equal amount of people that like her and dislike her. Her co-hosts have also seen a good amount of turnover. Apart from Ryan Seacrest, Michael Strahan, and Regis Philbin both had not-so-lovely experiences working alongside her. After Strahan was dropped as Ripa’s co-host from Live!, he shared how he could not meet and talk in person behind the scenes. Furthermore, Philbin also claimed that she was self-absorbed to the point where she took everything personally. Even after his exit from the show Ripa somehow believed it had to do something with her.
Regis Philbin Claims Kelly Ripa Was Highly Self-Absorbed
After leaving his famous talk show Live! (previously known as The Morning Show) Regis Philbin revealed various details about his exit. He worked with Kelly Ripa as co-host on the show for about a decade. However, even after such a long period of working together, they had hardly any interaction outside the show. Although Ripa is loved by her audience, two of her former co-hosts did not have much good stuff to share about her.
While appearing on Larry King Now, Philbun shared about his time working at ABC’s Live! He claimed that his co-host Ripa had a habit of taking everything personally. And due to this, according to him, it was difficult to convince her that his exit from the show had nothing to do with her. Philbin said,
“She got very offended when I left. She thought I was leaving because of her. I was leaving because I was getting older and it wasn’t right for me anymore.”
Furthermore, it seems that the two did not have a good relationship. After he left, he was still in contact with his former co-host, Kathie Lee Gifford, but not with Ripa. This showed the kind of chemistry they shared.
What Did Michael Strahan Have to Say About his Former Co-Host?
For some time, the ABC talk show Live! had former American football player Michael Strahan working as a co-host alongside Kelly Ripa. However, after he left the show, he opened up about being surprised by Ripa’s reaction. He also claimed that he had been discouraged from interacting with his co-host off-screen. Furthermore, Strahan also said that he felt his role on the show had been about being a “sidekick” to Ripa.
