After facing insane backlash on several occasions with the negative connotation of being a nepotism product, Gigi Hadid finally admits her privilege. Speaking openly with The Sunday Times outlet, the American model and TV personality admitted being a “nepo baby”. Quenching the thirst of people willing to hear her admit, Hadid acknowledges her privilege to success.

My parents came from very little, [but] I’ve always acknowledged that I come from privilegeGigi Hadid speaks with awareness. While opening up about her birthright to the modeling career, Hadid carefully stepped on sensitive grounds. She mentioned, “My parents told me, just because you have parents who were successful, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t walk into the job being as nice and as hard-working as you can be.” 

While having a successful career without major struggles on her way, Gigi Hadid owed it all to her well-known influential family. She finally admitted, “Technically, I’m a nepotism baby.” Realizing how she was born with a silver spoon, the rumored ex-girlfriend of Leonardo DiCaprio accepted the derogatory term after being perpetually targetted over the years.

Meriem Derradji, the name behind the popularity of the term “nepo baby” is a Canadian tech support worker. According to New York Magazine, which traced the word back to its origin stated, its popularity started in 2020 after Derradji tweeted about Maude Apatow. “Wait I just found out that the actress that plays Lexi is a nepotism baby omg? her mom is Leslie Mann and her dad is a movie director lol.” with this particular tweet, Derradji broke the internet and coined the term “nepo baby”. 

After netizens found the term nepo baby, every time a new such individual is revealed to the public, the internet expresses outrage over superficial pop-culture analysis of the right to opportunity. The discussion of legit inequality in the workplace irrespective of industries makes people even more furious over the concept of nepotism in the recent era.
