Jim Carrey is one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood. With movies like The Mask and Dumb and Dumber, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas — he permanently cemented his name as the best comedic actor in the industry. His more dramatic role in movies such as The Truman Show, Man on the Moon, and  Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind won him many awards and recognition. The all-rounder reportedly made some mistakes along his way to reach where he is today.

Turns out Jim Carrey lost more than one role to Johnny Depp in the entirety of his career that one knows of.

Jim Carrey’s career blunders

Jim Carrey took many wrong decisions along the way in his career. Some of which are quite shocking. Although it is quite difficult to judge a movie only by its script sometimes, the actors have no one to blame other than themselves, for going with their instincts.

The actor turned down Will Ferrell’s role in Elf and also passed on the opportunity to voice Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story franchise. Both of which turned out to be massive box-office hits worldwide. This wasn’t the only one, the major one is his turning down the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. He had to turn down the role as the dates of the shootings were clashing with his dates of Bruce AlmightyAnd just because he gave his word to Bruce Almighty prior, he could not back out. This made him miss out on a $300M paycheck. He also was considered for the role of Edward Scissorhands but changed his mind later.

Bruce Almighty later turned out to be a roaring success with Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Aniston, and Steve Carell in the cast along with Jim Carrey. But Pirates of the Caribbean ended up becoming a more memorable franchise.

Jim Carrey’s Bruce Almighty‘s darker version did not come to fruition

The makers of Bruce Almighty had something sinister in mind as the sequel of the movie. Although Jim Carrey missed out on being a part of one giant franchise he was allegedly excited about the prospects of this movie.

The sequel, titled Brucifer failed to take up the physical shape and “just didn’t work out for some reason,”. The idea of the movie was that the death of the main character’s wife Grace will lead him to Satan to bring her back from death. The shenanigans that follow after that will make up the movie. But unfortunately, the movie could not make it out of the writers’ room.
