When one mentions the greatest marvels in the history of Hollywood, James Cameron and the list of spectacular movies directed by him are undoubtedly at the top of the chart. The brain behind a masterpiece like Titanic was trolled by Jimmy Kimmel for not being awarded an Oscar under any of the categories for Avatar: The Way Of Water. The American comedian and TV host has been the face of the Oscars thrice, in 2017, 2018, and now again in 2023. No doubt he is a fan favorite. But the opening monologue of Jimmy Kimmel was definitely not liked and welcomed by a lot of the audience. It is accepted that he is there to create a lighter environment, especially after the 2022 Chris Rock and Will Smith slap gate.

Jimmy Kimmel Roasting James Cameron At The 95th Academy Awards
It’s like the comedians are becoming the favorite of the Oscar organizing community. Last year it was Chris Rock and the slap gate scandal and this year it’s Jimmy Kimmel and his tasteless roasting of many reputed names in the industry. The Terminator Series director James Cameron was unable to attend the Oscars due to some personal reasons. The absence of Avatar from the Oscar list as well as his non-appearance at the 95th Academy Awards- made him a hot topic for Jimmy Kimmel’s roasting game.
“You know a show is too long when even James Cameron can’t sit through it,” said Jimmy Kimmel, referring to the runtime of Avatar: The Way Of Water, which was 192 minutes.
Tom Cruise, Chris Rock, Nicole Kidman, Will Smith, and other well-known names were also a part of the roasting list in Jimmy Kimmel’s opening monologue.

A Joke That Did Not Sound Like A Joke, Oscars Host Criticized
Nobody hates a good and healthy joke, but it all goes down the line when it hurts the sentiments of the people. The monologue by Jimmy Kimmel undoubtedly featured some of his best jokes, but the latter part annoyed the audience. It was clearly a misogynistic one as he compared James Cameron to being a woman. He directly spoke about the True Lies director, saying-
“James Cameron is not here. You know a show is too long when even James Cameron can’t sit through it… Some of the cynics are saying Jim Cameron isn’t here because he didn’t get a best director nomination. And while I find that very hard to believe about a man of such deep humility, he does have a point. I mean, how does the Academy not nominate the guy who directed Avatar? What did they think he is, a woman?”
Many took to Twitter and reacted to the misogyny represented by Jimmy Kimmel through his jokes about James Cameron.
