Among many of his problematic stances over the years, Kanye West or Ye has also announced his will to run for president on various occasions publicly. It all began back in 2015 during the VMA awards that year. Following that he even showed his support for the former president of the U.S. Donald Trump. However, 2020 did not witness West running for the presidential election. Nevertheless, the rapper apparently is not letting the idea slide away. He even declared that he would be the country’s president one day sooner or later.
In 2020, while appearing as a guest on The Joe Rogan Experience, West explained the reason behind his desire to take part in politics. He also discussed his decision to announce it publicly in an award show. According to the Heartless rapper, various people around him were as confused as everyone else.
Kanye West Revealed to Joe Rogan his Reason to Run For Presidential Election
In 2020, Kanye West appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience. While talking about his 2015 announcement to run for the 2020 Presidential election, West revealed the reason why he decided on it. When prompted by the host Joe Rogan with the question, the rapper did not hesitate to explain. According to him, two days before receiving the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award in 2015, the idea struck him. And whatever he felt at the time he believes it to be God’s grace. The Praise God rapper shared that it all happened while taking a shower. He revealed, “This joy came river over my body”. And he also added, “I felt that energy, I felt that spirit”.
However, he did say that at the time he wanted to add lines about running for president in one of his songs. And according to him, that is where the idea of mentioning it during his acceptance speech came up. So, instead of performing his hit songs, the Heartless rapper instead left everyone confused with the announcement.
What Has Ye Said Since Announcing It?
The first time that Kanye West or Ye ever mentioned his will to run for president was in 2015. Since then, he has discussed it often. That same year he released his song Facts which includes lyrics expressing the same idea. But it did not stop there, in an interview with Vanity fair, he once again reaffirmed his announcement. And in the following years, he got acquainted with the ex-president of the U.S. Donald Trump. West even publicly showed his support for Trump. However, the Yeezy owner did not follow his plan exactly. And in 2018, it was implied by him that he was going to run for the presidential election in 2024 instead. But seemingly, sooner or later it is going to happen as he declared in a 2019 radio interview.
