Johnny Depp’s Jeanne du Barry received postproduction support from a Saudi-based company
Jeanne du Barry is a movie directed by Maïwenn, who will also be playing the role of the titular character in the movie. The lead cast of the movie includes big names like Johnny Depp, Pierre Richard, Benjamin Lavernhe, Noémie Lvovsky, Melvil Poupaud, India Hair, and Pascal Greggory. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea film festival will be the executive producer of the French movie.
Red Sea film Foundation was first founded in 2019 and they have supported almost 170 Arab and African films since then. However, Jeanne du Barry will be the production house’s first venture into the international market. The movie is being produced by multiple sources, including Depp’s production company IN.2.
What is the Jeanne du Barry about?
The French movie is about the French King Louis XV’s favorite royal mistress, who was also a courtesan. Jeanne du Barry is a young working-class woman who was born into poverty. By using her intelligence and her elegant looks, she climbed the social ladder and became very close to king Louis XV. The king falls in love with her, unaware of the fact that she is a courtesan. Jeanne du Barry, therefore, moves to Versailles which sets the plot for the rest of the movie.
Johnny Depp has multiple projects on the line along with Jeanne du Barry. Depp will be making his return to a directing role after a long gap of 25 years with the movie, Modigliani. The Sleepy Hollow actor will be directing a movie about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. This will be Johnny Depp’s first role as a director since his directing debut back in 1997, The Brave. He will be co-producing the movie along with Al Pacino and Barry Navidi. The movie’s production will probably begin in Europe in the spring season later this year.
Meanwhile, the movie, Jeanne du Barry is all set to be released later this year.
