Balenciaga shocked the world with its mud-pit-themed fashion show
Kanye West was the star-opener for his first runway stint ever. He opened the show for Balenciaga at its Paris Fashion Show back in 2022 – i.e., when he wasn’t a social pariah. And it was no normal show either, it might have foreshadowed what was about to happen to Ye’s reputation.
It is indeed as bizarre as it sounds. The Balenciaga show was literally a dirty evening, rife with mud and puddles. The title was, quite appropriately, Balenciaga’s Apocalyptic, Mud-Filled SS23.

Apparently, the mud was “a metaphor for digging for truth and being down to earth,” according to Demna, the creative director of Balenciaga. He further added rather arbitrarily, “Let us let everyone be anyone and make love not war.”
All the outfits that the models donned that evening were covered in mud, and it is hard to imagine who could have found the collection visually or aesthetically appealing. But these avant-garde tastes are apparently beyond the understanding of the common man.
Kanye West stomped his way through the Paris runway
For his first time on the runway, instead of a traditional ramp walk, the Donda rapper stomped his way through – as was dictated by the unusual theme – wearing a security jacket, leather pants, and a hood over a baseball cap.
Although all four of the Gold Digger rapper’s kids attended the show, their mother, Kim Kardashian took a rain check. However, Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Jenner were present in the audience. Other prominent names in attendance were Salma Hayek, Naomi Campbell, Alexa Demie, Christine Quinn, and Offset.
