Karen Gillan Speaks Up in Defense Of Marvel Movies After Negative Comments By Martin Scorsese

Karen Gillan is yet another star who has made their stance clear in the face of negative comments on Marvel movies by Martin Scorsese.

For the uninitiated, Martin Scorsese expressed his opinion on the Marvel Movies in an interview with Empire Magazine. He said that he doesn’t watch them and that he doesn’t think that these movies are real cinema. According to him, the movies are theme parks at best. He thinks that Marvel movies are not “cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.” James Gunn expressed his sadness that the Oscar-winning filmmaker was judging his movies without even watching them.  Joss Whedon, Peter Ramsey, and Leigh Whannell are some ‏other writers and directors who have responded to the comments of Scorsese.

The actress who played major roles in the two movies written and directed by James Gunn. She spoke to THR magazine in defense of the director and the movies. She made it clear that these movies are definitely cinema according to her. Gillan said “I would absolutely say that Marvel movies are cinema,” Gillan says. “Cinema is story-telling with visuals. There’s so much heart and soul, and it’s James’ soul in there. He injects so much of his own personality, his sense of humor … that’s a very big representation of who he is as a person and therefore it’s very cinematic. He’s an artist.”
