Kate Walsh is set to be back as Addison Forbes Montgomery on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy in the upcoming 18th season. And she’s there for more than one episode.
Kate Walsh portrays Addison who is a world- class gynecological and neonatal surgeon. She had a marriage with Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and has a huge long history with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo).
The specific storyline for her arc in Season 18 is not revealed as of now.
Kate’s first appearance on Grey’s anatomy was in the Season 1 finale when she was revealed as Derek Shepherd’s estranged wife in one of the show’s most amazingly shocking scenes. She was then appearing as a recurring character but then Kate Walsh become more regular as the series went on.
During Season 3, Shonda Rhimes (creator) created a spinoff which was built around Kate’s character; Private Practice which showed Addison moving to Los Angeles to start a new chapter of her life.
Kate left Grey’s at the end of that very season.
Bit on the other hand, on Private Practice; she returned to Grey’s for many guest starring episodes and most recent being Season 8’s “If/Then” episode.
She has went on to appear in total of 59 episodes on the show.
The “If/Then” episode aired in February 2012, also featured Kate Burton who is also set to make a return in Grey’s Anatomy for upcoming season in multiple episodes.

Kate Walsh’s return mirrors that of other popular main cast member, Kim Raver, who also returned to the medical drama as a recurring after being away for several seasons. She is now again a series regular.
Meanwhile Kate has been part of other series like The Handler and The Umbrella Academy. She also appeared on Emily in Paris.
She has been a part of films like Honest Thief, Sometime Other Than Now and the science fiction 3022 streaming on Amazon.
Her return has gotten fans excited. Grey’s Anatomy’s Season 18 premiere is set for September 30 on ABC.
