Keeping aside the news of Krypton’s cancellation on Syfy; let’s talk a little about its amazing season 2 finale. Jor-El’s birth signalled a lot of things to come but most importantly it could ultimately lead to a showdown between Seg-El and Brainiac. Here’s why we think that might happen.

What Happened In Krypton’s Season 2 Finale?

The season 2 finale of Krypton revealed that Brainiac (Blake Ritson) planned to make Jor-El the new Superman. As fans of the Super mythos will know, Jor-El is the son of Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe). But most importantly, he is Superman’s biological father. Baby Jor-El was kidnapped in episode 7 because of Brainiac’s interest in the House of El bloodline.

After Seg and Nyssa (Wallis Day) succeeded in getting Brainiac out of his head, Nyssa decided that she wanted to change the name of their son, Cor-Vex, because she no longer wanted him to be associated with the “Vex” family name. At the suggestion of Val-El’s hologram, Cor-Vex was renamed Jor-El.

This was a huge moment because it not only confirmed the identity of Superman’s grandmother but also of his father. Unfortunately, the new parents’ time with Jor-El was cut short when Brainiac gained a new body and took the child. So far, the pair have been unable to find them.

In the final episode of Krypton’s second season, which was titled as “The Alpha and the Omega,” Seg and Lyta (Georgina Campbell) finally defeat General Zod (Colin Salmon). In the aftermath of the battle, Seg agrees to help Lobo (Emmett J. Scanlan) find Brainiac so that he can rescue his son. Meanwhile, Brainiac’s plans for Jor-El are finally made clear. Brainiac intends to take baby Jor-El to earth and make him a “god amongst men.”

Why Brainiac Wants To Take Jor-El To Earth?

Superman comics readers will be familiar with the above phrase. It is referring to the effect which the yellow sun has on Kryptonians. What Brainiac wants is his very own Superman who will remain under his control. If Brainiac’s plan succeeds then he will be able to easily conquer earth. This is made even more possible by the fact that since Krypton takes place 200 years before the birth of Superman, Earth will not have any superheroes who are capable of defending the planet from a Kryptonian under the yellow sun.

But the one wrench in Brainiac’s plan is the age of Jor-El. As a baby, Jor-El is way too young to be used as a weapon by The Collector. If this indeed turns out to be the case then Brainiac can set his sites on Seg instead. Seg has been referenced to having similarities to Superman himself. It would certainly be a worthy showdown to see Seg fight Brainiac under the effect of the yellow sun.
