Ben Affleck Reportedly Blamed His Former Wife Jennifer Garner
The 50-year-old actor opened up about his marriage during a two-hour-long interview that garnered major media attention last year. As per the various reports, the actor felt trapped during his marriage with Jennifer Garner, “I’d probably still be drinking. It’s part of why I started drinking … because I was trapped.”
He seemed unhappy with his relationship, “I was like ‘I can’t leave ’cause of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ What I did was drink a bottle of Scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”
He also talked about his marriage in that interview stating,
“We had a marriage that didn’t work, this happens, with somebody that I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn’t be married any longer. Ultimately, we tried. We tried, we tried because we had kids. Both of us felt like we don’t want this to be the model that our kids see of marriage.”
The couple had many ups and downs in their relationship and had tried to make it work out, though it ultimately ended. However, the ex-pair is on good terms and co-parenting their three children, Violet Anne Affleck, Seraphina Rose Elizabeth Affleck, and Samuel Garner Affleck.
Ben Affleck’s Defending His Ex-Wife After Major Backlash
The Gone Girl actor made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! during his promotions for his then-new movie The Tender Bar and addressed the controversial statements that put him in a negative light.
The actor shared, “Saw one of these websites had done the clickbait thing,”
He further explained how his conversation was taken out of context stating, “I looked on it, and they had literally taken the conversation that I had had for two hours and made it seem as if I was saying the exact opposite of what I had said.”
He further shared how that “clickbait” made him an “awful” guy stating,
“I had gone on, said how much we respected each other, cared about each other, cared about our kids, put them first. It said that I had blamed my ex-wife for my alcoholism, that I was trapped in this marriage, [which]just made me out to be the worst, most insensitive, stupid, awful guy.”
Ben Affleck clarified the then-controversial posts stating, “To be clear, like, that’s not true. I don’t believe that. It’s the exact opposite of who I am, [and]what I believe. And I would never want my kids to think I would ever say a bad word about their mom.”
The former pair were in the relationship for ten years before calling it quits in 2018. They had been supporting each other even after their separation. Not just that, the actress has also acknowledged Affleck’s newly married life to Jennifer Lopez.
