The Queen seems to be losing her throne. Every year as the winter winds start blowing in and the Christmas spirit gradually sets in, Mariah Carey’s classic Christmas track, All I Want For Christmas Is You becomes the rage. Not only do the streams break the charts and go past the roof, but so do the Carey-Christmas jokes – recycled yet funny. But this year, it seems that Carey is losing her hold of the biggest holiday of the year as the song is underperforming against all prior expectations.

Be it on radio, or streaming services, Mariah Carey seems to have faced a jolt. The ubiquitous Christmas track, which usually becomes all the rage almost as soon as Thanksgiving wraps up, is performing pretty mid as of now. The song usually reached the top 5 mark and sometimes even the top position by this time of the year. However, average stats from Spotify and iTunes suggest that the song is currently below even the 10th position. To be precise, the song is at the 35th position on the iTunes album chart. This is quite a surprise for everyone.
Until now, All I Want For Christmas Is You was an undisputed holiday classic, even trumping over songs like Jingle Bells and White Christmas. The 52-year-old had even crowned herself (not literally) the Queen of Christmas. The queen’s coffers have never been in want as well due to the revenue that her song’s chartbuster streams still get for the song written by Walter Afanasieff, and recorded in the Phil Spector style. But the magic seems to have waned now. And who is to blame?
Are fans tired of Mariah Carey’s diva attitude?
Reports suggest that the blame for the song’s lackluster performance this year goes to none other than its singer itself. Carey seems to have taken her song’s success for granted and her latest live performance was a testament to this fact. The Without You singer recently performed at Macy’s Thanksgiving parade and her act was dubbed as sloth-like by several of the audience members. She hardly moved during the performance and the act was really low on entertainment as there was no energy in it.
Carey is a highly successful singer with a whopping net worth of around $340 million but that doesn’t warrant her from underperforming before an audience, who have reportedly had enough of her and her so-called diva attitude. And this could be a prime reason behind the song dropping on charts worldwide.
