The Marvel franchise, for more than a decade now has been entertaining the audience with their superhero movies.

And these movies are infamous for all the Easter eggs they keep dropping all over the place.

Marvel Cinematic Universe

Although some are fairly easy to spot, some have evaded fans for years before someone figured them out.

Here is a list of the more obscure Marvel Easter eggs that you can identify the next time you see these movies.

  1. Excelsior!

stan Lee's Excelsior

When Rocket zooms in on Stan Lee’s face in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, there’s a bunch of disorganized Skrull texts.

Someone, after quite a few viewings and a few years later, translated it – It spells out ‘Excelsior’, Stan Lee’s famous catchphrase.

Lee was also seeing uttering the same word in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

  1. The Perfect Ayesha

3 6

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the Sovereign’s leader Ayesha played by Elizabeth Debicki keeps telling the audience that they are perfect.

If some don’t know, the lore behind this particular ‘perfection’ connects to two Marvel comic characters.

Ayesha or ‘Her’ in the comics was created by The Enclave to be the perfect specimen.

And then her companion came along, who was called ‘Him’ or…. Adam Warlock!

  1. Grandmaster’s Champions

4 6

In Thor: Ragnarok, the Grandmasters Palace proudly displays all his champions that came before his current – the Hulk.

There is Man-Thing, Bi-Beast, Ares, and Beta Ray Bill.

When Thor was given Stormbreaker, that was another nod to Bill, who is the character to actually wield the weapon, after he once lifted Thor’s Mjolnir.

  1. Someone in Each Phase 2 Movie Loses an Arm.

Klaue

Someone in every movie in Phase 2 lost an arm. As MCU’s Kevin Feige revealed, although not intentional at first, it became so by the end.

He is a huge Star Wars fan, and this was a nod to the franchise’s The Empire Strikes Back.

From Bucky, to Cross to Klaue to Thor himself in one of his illusions, someone or the other has lost an arm.

  1. Black Panther – Fathers and Sons

6 7

The character of T’Chaka, T’Challa’s father before he was killed in the Vienna explosion in Captain America: Civil War, was played by John Kani.

Coincidentally, the role of a young T’Chaka who we see at the beginning of Black Panther looked fairly similar to John Kani.

That is because the character was played by his own son, Atandwa Kani.

  1. OG Guardians

Stalone's Ogord

A few OG Guardians from the comics have made cameos is the Guardian films.

From Cosmo the Space Dog to Stakar Ogord, the character who is one half of Starhawk and is played by Sylvester Stallone.

We can only hope that the other members of the original team will also show up for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.

  1. The Arrow Ride.

Hawkeye and AntMan

As seen in Captain America: Civil War, Team Cap had both Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man.

And they have an iconic scene together. Ant-Man climbs aboard one of Clint’s arrows as he fires it towards Tony.

That scene has been taken directly from the cover of The Avengers #223 issue.

  1. Iron Man Jingle

9 5

In the first Iron Man movie, Favreau pays a tribute to the Iron Man cartoons from 1996.

The jingle from the cartoon can be heard on a few occasions – once when Tony is in a casino. It is also Rhodey’s ringtone, which is a nice touch.

  1. The Original Incredible Hulk

Lou Ferrigno's cameo

Marvel movies have a lot of cameos.

Those who haven’t watched the initial shows before Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man graced the silver screen might have missed the fact.

But Lou Ferrigno, who played Hulk in the original series, can be seen as a security guard in The Incredible Hulk movie.

  1. Odin’s Ravens

11 4

Odin’s ravens are an integral part of the one-eyed god. They are his eyes and ears around the nine realms.

But in the movies, they can hardly be seen.

Most might have missed, but during Thor’s coronation ceremony scene in the movie, the two ravens are seen sitting on the throne – which we are guessing are Huginn and Muninn.

  1. Revengers

12 2

In Thor: Ragnarok, we see Thor’s new team trying to escape Grandmaster’s Sakaar as well as at the end when they fight against Hela.

Thor calls them the Revengers, as in like a rip-off of the Avengers.

But in actuality, the Marvel comics do have a team called Revengers – in another universe, the zombie version of the Avengers are known as the Revengers.

  1. Avenger Tower plans

Avengers Tower

At the end of The Avengers, as Tony and Pepper stand in the half-destroyed Stark Tower, making new plans for its renovations, we can see the new Tower design.

The screen shows Tony planned on renovating the place with all the Avengers in mind and would turn Stark Tower to Avengers Tower.

  1. Killmonger’s Preyy

Killmonger's suit

After Killmonger defeats T’Challa, he gains his own new suit as the Black Panther.

And his suit is admittedly different from T’Challa’s, with some really prominent leopard prints on display.

That is a direct reference to Killmonger’s sidekick in the comics, Preyy the leopard, who unfortunately didn’t get to be a part of the movie.

  1. Hydro-Man is Far From Home

Elementals in Far From Home

In Spider-Man: Far From Home, before the audience actually got to know the truth about the Elementals Mysterio was fighting, Flash, who is played by Tony Revolori, tells everyone that news site Buzzfeed was suggesting that a sailor called Morris Bench involved in a nuclear test gone wrong, could be the water creature.

This is actually the original story of Hydro-Man from the comics.

  1. Tales to Astonish

Tales to Astonish

In Ant-Man, Corey Stoll’s Darren Cross while talking about Pym’s suit, tells his investors that the working of the suit seemed like ‘tales to astonish’.

This is a direct shout out to Ant Man’s debut in the Marvel Comics, which was titled Tales to Astonish.
