Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen could be a mutant in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

The character was first introduced in the post-credits scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier with an altered storyline as compared to the Marvel comics. Scarlet Witch was fully introduced in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, containing the mutant gene, which is the key characteristic of the X-Men characters.

However, Disney had to change her storyline in MCU as Fox owned the Cinematic rights to X-Men. With a deal between Fox and Disney under works, this will certainly allow Disney to reboot or merge Fox characters into the MCU. Meanwhile, a new book that recaps the first 10 years of Marvel Studios plants seeds for Scarlet Witch to be a mutant, after all.

“She may be called Scarlet Witch, but Wanda’s powers aren’t derived from the occult,” the book reads (via ScreenRant). “Whether it altered her or merely unlocked something latent inside Wanda, the Infinity Stone on Loki’s scepter bestowed incredible powers of the mind. Wanda’s internal neuro-electric interface allows her to conjure blasts of red telekinetic energy. She can also use this energy to create barriers, levitate and move objects; to communicate and read thoughts by telepathy; and even to manipulate the minds of others.”

While the studio might try to fit in Wanda with a mutant gene, the notion of introducing her father sounds rather perplexing. As all Marvel fans would remember, the death of Wanda’s parents by Stark Industries fueled Her desire to kill Iron Man.

The death of Wanda’s parents was never shown onscreen and we all know that it’s not fair to accept a death in comic book films until you actually see it on the screen. However, this reversal of time may somehow disrupt Marvel’s continuity but this should also make a lot of fans happy, as they might finally get to see the X-men being introduced to the MCU.

Infinity War saw the death of Scarlet Witch post-Thanos’ snap so it’s still unclear if she will appear in Avengers 4 but we hope that she comes back to life for an unexpected, X-Men dominated phase 4 of MCU.
