Taika Waititi recently revealed the current debate on whether Thor will remain fat in the next Thor installment. Thor: Love and Thunder is the fourth solo movie, following the previous installment: Thor: Ragnarok. Taika Waititi directed both the films, and after heavy praise received from Ragnarok, Love and Thunder is eagerly anticipated.

Thor’s transformation wasn’t entirely physical, but transcended through various emotional stages as he dealt with grief, loss and trauma in the gap between Infinity War and Endgame. Hemsworth’s performance as the God of Thunder in Thor: Ragnarok revived several positive reviews. Waititi successfully brought out Hemsworth’s charm and charisma in the character without tainting the heroic image he stood for. Many fans were able to relate to the loss he felt in the beginning of Infinity War, as well as his downwards spiral after killing Thanos.

Thor’s Physical Changes In Endgame

His downwards spiral was portrayed through an unkempt version of himself, shaggy hair and beard and a very significant beer gut. In a recent interview, Taika Waititi answered a question on Thor’s physical form in his Love and Thunder appearance.

According to Waititi, “This is an ongoing debate that we’re still having at Marvel. Cause we’re trying to figure out how long – how many months or years – this is after Endgame, at what point does this take place?”

While Thor’s additional weight gain encouraged several memes all over the Internet, it still contributed to providing a depth to Thor’s character. It was an insight of a man who hit rock bottom after losing his family as well as Asgard as a whole.
