Phase 4 shook up the existing quo following Avengers: Endgame by introducing a slew of new Marvel heroes, villains, and super-teams. The introductions of Shang-Chi, the Eternals, and a slew of other characters were thrilling, but Marvel Studios didn’t overlook the characters that had previously been established. Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and other MCU characters star in the sequels, meanwhile Disney+ has given MCU characters a new home. And now, a Thunderbolts movie is in the works at Marvel Studios.

It might be the ideal chance to give Bucky Barnes the storyline he so well deserves. Bucky was most recently featured in Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where, although being the title character, Bucky’s narrative is extremely secondary to the tale, while co-lead Sam Wilson gets a fully-developed story ending in his being the next Captain America. But the question is will Bucky be a great fit to be the leader for Thunderbolts?

Why would Bucky be a great fit to lead Thunderbolts?

Sebastian Stan
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes

Bucky, played by Sebastian Stan, would be an obvious option to lead in the flick. Due to his character’s popularity as a fan favorite whose chronic underutilization by the MCU has resulted in numerous wasted chances, he would be a good fit for this scenario. Marvel hasn’t quite known what to do with a reformed, recovered Bucky Barnes since setting him on the road to redemption in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series put forth this since it belittles him within his own program and eventually fails to be Bucky’s redemption narrative, in which Sam is given a chance to flourish and develop.

Bucky may be asked to head the squad since he is regarded as a hero in the public eye, and his past deeds as a ruthless assassin responsible for the murders of Howard Stark and even JFK could be overlooked. In that situation, is there anybody better than Bucky to monitor the reformation of criminals and villains?
