In 2008, the singer was involuntarily placed under a conservatorship by Judge Reva Goetz, with her father, Jamie Spears, and attorney Andrew M. Wallet, as conservators. From that moment, her father had complete control of her personal, medical, and financial decisions.

After 13 years and a long battle, the singer’s conservatorship finally came to an end in November 2021. The singer’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, called it a “monumental day” when it was announced that her conservatorship has been terminated. Since then, the singer has made her own decisions and finally got to experience those things that she once couldn’t because of the agreement. She was reportedly not allowed to consume basic things like coffee and even homemade lasagna.
