We All Know That DC’s First Robin, Now Nightwing, Is The Most Famous Sidekick In Comics:

A Still Of DC's Comics First Robin, Now Nightwing
A Still Of DC’s Comics First Robin, Now Nightwing

DC Comics’ original Robin, now Nightwing, is possibly the most renowned comic book sidekick. He’s changed a lot since his debut, and not always for the better. Both Dick and the other Robins have long questioned if their time with Batman was worthwhile, but according to a new series, Dick’s time with Batman has transformed him into someone that fans would scarcely recognize as the youthful wonder. Batman vs. Bigby!, a new DC Black Label miniseries! Brian Level and Bill Willingham’s A Wolf In Gotham is a crossover with the popular series Fables. The series follows Batman as he investigates a string of killings in Gotham that appear to have been committed by a wolf. The inquiry leads him to the detective Bigby Wolf, also known as the big bad wolf, who is in Gotham for an unknown cause. Both Bigby and the story’s ostensible villain, Bookworm, appear to be on the hunt for a precious book from another realm. The most intriguing aspect of this book is its perspective on Dick Grayson, who never became Nightwing and instead preserved the Robin mantle.

By Not Becoming Nightwing Everything Changed For Robin:

A Reality Where Nightwing Evolved Into A Monster
A Reality Where Nightwing Evolved Into A Monster By Never Giving Up As Robin

In issue #2, it is revealed that not only has Dick retained his identity as Robin, but he has also established a complete facility to teach others to become ‘Robins’ as well. As they rise through the ranks, the youngsters are subjected to severe physical training, finally earning the title of Robin. Batman then employs them in a variety of cases and investigations around the city. Dick and Bruce handle these children as militant troops, even employing psychological techniques to toughen them up. Many stories in DC’s primary reality have implied that Bruce transforming Dick into Robin effectively turned him into a child soldier in his battle against crime.

What’s The Difference In This Reality:

Nightwing Became a Monster in the Universe Where He Never Quit as Robin
Nightwing Became a Monster in the Universe Where He Never Quit as Robin

Many stories in DC’s primary reality have implied that Bruce transforming Dick into Robin effectively turned him into a child soldier in his battle against crime. This narrative takes things to a whole new level, with Dick, as Robin, training and breeding fresh offspring to join Batman’s own army of crime fighters. This is a rather different take on Dick Grayson, who is always questioning his past. He lacks empathy and comes out as a terrible brute intent on eliminating Gotham’s criminal underbelly. While unique, this rendition offers a brutal and terrifying look at what may have happened to one of DC’s finest heroes. While his years as Robin may have been some of the greatest of his life, it was surely for the best that Dick moved off on his own and became Nightwing.
