“No matter how much you had fun, you’d be a sl-t”: Jeremy Renner Believes Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow is Still ‘Characterless’ Despite Angering Fans With Initial Statement
Don’t be fooled by the fact that Jeremy Renner is one of the Avengers. The Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters star is infamous for his reputation off-screen, often finding himself in a pickle for his controversial behavior time and again.
His custody battle with Sonni Pachecho is a case in point. Allegations of the gravest degree were leveled against him. But that isn’t where it all started. One can’t help but remember the furor caused when he ended up sl*t-shaming Black Widow.

In an interview, Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans could be heard putting the Scarlett Johansson played character to shame for being romantically involved with multiple members of the Avengers in the course of the movies.
The duo went on to call Black Widow a “complete whore” and a “slut”, remarks which didn’t sit well with a large portion of MCU fans. They were at the heart of a storm, and eventually had no option but to issue a public apology, each.
But it was the difference in the nature of their apologies that caught the people’s eyes again.
Jeremy Renner’s unapologetic apology
In the aftermath of all the backlash that came his way, The Gray Man actor issued a statement, which read:
“Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a very juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize.”
Contrasted to this apology by the Snowpiercer star, The Bourne Legacy actor was more interested in pointing out how nothing was wrong with his joke. He said,
“I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”
Very classy, Hawkeye.

Jeremy Renner refused to fold
Fans were not at all pleased by the American Hustle actor’s apology. If anything, it caused more annoyance. But Renner was not going to change his stance. He later said in an interview with Conan, “I got in a lot of internet trouble. I guess that’s a thing now you can get in.”
He continued,
“Now, mind you, I’m talking about a fictional character and fictional behavior, but Conan, if you slept with four of the six Avengers, no matter how much fun you had, you’d be a slut. Just saying. I’d be a slut.”
One wonders how long will Hawkeye’s quiver last if he keeps firing shots like this. The biggest irony about the whole debacle being that Hawkeye and Black Widow are best friends, willing to die for each other, but reality is seldom that fulfilling.
