Guardians of the Galaxy’s director, James Gunn was fired from directing the third installation of the franchise after his almost a decade old offensive tweets resurfaced on social media. This led to many fans asking themselves about the director’s behaviour and their reaction to his offensive comments regarding rape and pedophilia.

Even the film’s cast has been struggling to deal with the sensitive situation as they have to choose between their allegiance to fans or sticking by Gunn’s side. Even Chris Pratt who plays Star-Lord in the film hoped Gunn to get rehired as a director by Disney again.

“It’s not an easy time. We all love James and he’s a good friend of ours, but we also really love playing the Guardians of the Galaxy,” Pratt shared with the AP. “It’s a complicated situation for everybody. And you know, we just want to move forward and do what’s right and be the best people we can be.”

Gunn was seen as one of the most active directors on social media, sharing everything from his day-to-day life to dropping Marvel Easter Eggs. After his negative comments about Trump, bloggers dug in deep through the Director’s old tweets and brought his old tweets about rape and pedophilia back to the limelight.

“I love going to Comic-Con but I ended up not doing a lot of interviews around that time just because it was so shocking,” Pratt noted. “All I know is we put a lot of time, thought and effort into the statement that we released about it. And I think we all kind of want that statement to be essentially what we have to say about it. And we were pretty clear and honest about how we feel.”

Even other co-stars like Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper also came out in support of James Gunn in a statement that said,

“We fully support James Gunn. We were all shocked by his abrupt firing last week and have intentionally waited these ten days to respond in order to think, pray, listen, and discuss. In that time, we’ve been encouraged by the outpouring of support from fans and members of the media who wish to see James reinstated as director of Volume 3 as well as discouraged by those so easily duped into believing the many outlandish conspiracy theories surrounding him.”

But with more images of Gunn in a pedophilia themed party resurfacing on the internet, we’re really unsure if Disney will re-hire him. Although recent reports claim that Disney will be moving forward with Gunn’s script for the third Guardians film.

Do you think that with enough fan and cast support, Gunn will be rehired by Disney? Let us know in the comments below.
