Obi-Wan Kenobi followed the events of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and fans were awaiting the return of Ewan McGregor. The series was highly anticipated as fans were desperate for a reunion of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader. The premier of Obi-Wan Kenobi coincided with Star Wars Celebration 2022 and followed the Jedi Master returning to action after Leia Organa was kidnapped. Earlier, Marvel’s Loki held the record for being the biggest Disney+ premier but now Obi-Wan Kenobi has beaten every record and becomes the most-watched Disney Plus Original series premiere globally to date, based on hours streamed in an opening weekend.

Hype for an Obi-Wan Keno and Darth Vader reunion boosted the viewership record for the series as the series had built-in fans who were eager to see them again. So far Disney plus has a subscriber base of 138 million and Obi-Wan Kenobi seemed to seize them all. Since Obi-Wan Kenobi has beaten The Mandalorian’s opening weekend record, it will be fascinating to see whether it will be able to beat the other MCU series.
