Season 1, Episode 8 (“It’s Cow or Never”) of HBO Max’s “Peacemaker” brings a stunning conclusion to the inaugural season of the first television series explicitly set within the DC Extended Universe. The first season finale features an exhilarating and humorous final battle with the Butterflies that leaves the lives of many of Task Force X’s heroes hanging in the balance. Though the group is ultimately successful in its mission, Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) and Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) are grievously wounded in the fight.

As our heroes make their way to the finish line, they appear quite unmoved by the arrival of four Justice League members. While the audiences don’t get to see the faces of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman or Henry Cavill’s Superman, it is quite notable that Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and Ezra Miller (The Flash) do appear before Peacemaker and the Task Force X team.

Peacemaker star John Cena opens up about the finale

While appearing in a recent interview with Fandom, star John Cena opened up on how he feels about Miller and Momoa’s brief cameo and even talked about what the Justice League means to his character (Peacemaker) in the course of the series.

While Peacemaker is visibly annoyed to see the four Justice League members arrive at the party, Cena playing Peacemaker has quite a different view of the whole situation. In fact, Cena also praised Miller and Momoa for their appearance on the small screen.

“I’m forever grateful, because they did us a huge solid by doing that,” Cena said (via Fandom). “And they were able to put themselves in the limelight and get everybody talking, but they do so in a way where the joke’s not on them. And they did it for the good of our show.”

Cena also termed the appearance of the Justice League as “incredible,” going on to reference what he thinks Peacemaker’s rendezvous with the superhero team says about his character altogether. Peacemaker also displays somewhat a yearning to be as grand as the Justice League members, but he routinely falls short of high standards, particularly when he spreads some malicious rumors about Justice League superheroes like Wonder Woman and Aquaman.

Here’s the scene in question:

“Peacemaker is a jealous superhero,” Cena told Fandom, later questioning whether the superhero label even applies to someone like Peacemaker. “He’s jealous of the other superheroes because of what they have. And he wants that and he doesn’t have it. So he has to bad mouth everybody… Everything he says is just indicative of how insecure he is. He wants to be where they are.”

John Cena also revealed that he believes the Justice League’s appearance in “Peacemaker” also signifies a definitive shift in the DCEU. “It lets everybody know… ‘These folks are now on an equal playing field, wow!’ That’s my takeaway from that,” Cena said. “I think that was a very important moment for us.”

However, for all fans of the Dark Knight, the Justice League cameo in Peacemaker did not feature any iteration of Cyborg or Batman.

Maybe, we could see the two in the recently confirmed “Peacemaker” Season 2? Well, we will have to wait and see.
