Peacemaker director James Gunn has now confirmed that Bat-Mite is a canon in the DCEU – officially. The DC series sees Christopher Smith as Peacemaker (played by John Cena) on a new mission given down by Amanda Waller and her team. All new Peacemaker episodes will be dropping every Thursday, with the initial three hitting HBO Max later this week.

Peacemaker confirms the existence of Bat-Mite

Peacemaker will be following the events of The Suicide Squad and will pick up with the titular anti-hero recovering from the wounds that he had suffered at the climax of the film. Now as he is a free man, Christopher Smith is then recruited again by the US government for a top-secret mission. This mission will pair him up with another team of agents that will give him support in the field, which includes John (played by Steve Agee), who reveals the existence of the Bat-Mite as a “two-foot-tall interdimensional imp who stans Batman.”

Peacemaker had officially hit HBO Max earlier this week, bringing a unique brand of hardcore insanity with it. One similar element that the Peacemaker has brought is an earnest reference to the existence of Bat-Mite in the DCEU. While taking to Instagram in order to celebrate the premiere of the Peacemaker, James Gunn posted a picture of Bat-Mite, even noting that he is indeed now canon.

Now while audiences don’t really see the Bat-Mite in Peacemaker, Gunn has confirmed that the character exists within the DCEU. A product of the Silver Age of Comics, Bat-Mite was earlier introduced as a supernatural imp from another dimension in 1959, who also harbors a deep fascination with Batman. Often compared to Mr. Mxyzptlk from Superman’s side, Bat-Mite is more heroically aligned with Batman in his depictions – and well, even he is sometimes a huge thorn in The Batman’s side.

Obviously, while Bat-Mite is now the canon in the DCEU, whether the audiences will get to meet the diminutive character or not, still remains to be seen. As the DCEU becomes increasingly weird in the past few years, interdimensional imps might be a bridge too far for now. This being said, Bat-Mite has been depicted in less literal ways in the DC comics, sometimes even serving as a representation of Batman’s “rational mind,” which serves as a workaround to bring him into a grounded show like Peacemaker. Until DC goes on to reveal more about the future of Bat-Mite, new episodes of Peacemaker continue to drop every Thursday on HBO Max.
