John Cena’s Peacemaker made his DCEU debut in The Suicide Squad by James Gunn. The film’s version of Peacemaker is more of a self-proclaimed superhero who keeps on killing anyone; be it men, women, or children in the name of peace. And it does sound extremely horrifying but he does live up to his self-contradictory mission statement in unexpected ways, by murdering anyone who gets in the way.

Peacemaker’s story isn’t done yet and neither is Cena portraying him since the character is set to return in his own series on HBO Max in 2022. DC Comics has dropped the first teaser trailer for Peacemaker at DC FanDome which follows a similar tone and style as The Suicide Squad.  The fans are looking forward to seeing more of the Peacemaker’s antics in the new show.

But he might be getting some new as well.

During the teaser trailer, Christopher Smith aka Peacemaker is shown seemingly naked next to his car and he has a mysterious glow enveloping his body. There is no context that is provided for the mysterious glow; the only thing we know is that it is emanating from his helmet. And there are about three possible explanations for the glow.

Still from the series

The first reason for the glow is that Peacemaker is attached by an unseen enemy and this scenario seems to be likely since the trailer saw him getting recruited by a mysterious man to kill bad guys in exchange for staying out of the prison. Since Peacemaker is sitting on the ground, maybe in pain, it is possible that his enemy is incapacitating him with electricity-based powers. Considering his helmet is made of metal, the helmet is likely functioning as a major electrical conductor.

The second could be that Peacemaker is following the latest superhero trend of owning a suit that materializes with a high-tech device. He is a practical guy using combat skills, firearms, and other weapons but he is not beyond using any high-tech gear.

The third scenario could be that the glow is a hallucination which could mark the appearance of Smith’s mental illness in the DCEU. His mental problems aren’t prominent in the comics but it is established that he believes the would of people he killed resided in his helmet.

Looks like we will have to wait for the series to find the answer.
