After an animated cross-examination of Depp’s legal team, Twitter couldn’t help but compare psychiatrist, Dr. David Spiegel, to Doc Brown from “Back to the Future.” Fans of Johnny Depp have claimed that Dr. David Spiegel, Amber Heard’s expert witness, breached an ethical norm by testifying in court on the Pirates of the Caribbean star’s behavior without personally questioning him.
Elaine Bredehoft, Heard’s lawyer, called in Spiegel to bolster their case against Depp with his evaluation of the actor as a psychiatrist. The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star’s legal team raised various objections to the doctor’s conclusion and subsequently quizzed him about his experience with ‘Intimate Partner Violence,’ which was the focus of his accusations against the actor.

Dr. Spiegel was summoned by Heard’s team to testify on drug abuse and intimate partner violence (IPV); as with other expert witnesses, the summoning team scans through their records to establish them as expert witnesses, which is normally a formality. However, when Depp’s legal team objected to Spiegel being regarded as an expert on IPV, it triggered a heated cross-examination. Dr. Spiegel frowned as Wayne Dennison tried to take apart his resume, alleging Dr. Spiegel had never written about or spoken explicitly on IPV.
“IPV doesn’t appear on your CV at all?” Dennison probed deeper.
“If you say it’s not on my CV I’ll believe you,” Spiegel said.
During the trial, the lawyer and psychiatrist tussled. Dennison pointed out that because Spiegel had not interviewed Depp, he couldn’t make an accurate judgment. Spiegel claimed to have made the same request. However, the actor declined to participate. Dennison then inquired about Spiegel’s methodology for assessing the actor’s cognitive speech. Dennison continued:
“At the deposition, didn’t you say what you did was compare Mr. Depp’s performance in lots of Pirates movies against his deposition here?”
After then, Spiegel apologized for the same. Dennison defied the concept by launching a humorous attack on him. Dennison stated:
“Willy Wonka doesn’t matter to you? You see that movie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Did you look at that one when you were comparing his processing speed?”
During the arduous cross-examination, Spiegel was questioned about labeling Johnny Depp an “idiot” and rating him as having an impaired function. Netizens have said that Spiegel looks and sounds eerily similar to Christopher Lloyd’s Back to the Future character Doc Brown.
