As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, TV writer Michael Waldron will be the showrunner on the upcoming Loki TV series which is under development as of now. The series will premiere on the upcoming Disney+ streaming service. The show will follow the title of God of Mischief as he pops up throughout the history of mankind, influencing and affecting human history. Tom Hiddleston is expected to return to reprise his role as Loki in the series.

Michael Waldron is a veteran of Dan Harmon’s Starburns Industries. He has shown his skills on shows like Rick and Morty and HarmonQuest, where he wrote the scripts for the currently undergoing fourth season. Notably, this isn’t the first time Marvel and Rick and Morty universe have intersected with each other. Harmon himself contributed in 2016’s Doctor Strange.

For now, Disney is developing numerous limited series featuring MCU characters. Scarlet Witch and Loki are two that are currently under development. Both Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Hiddleston are expected to reprise their roles and Wanda Maximoff and Loki. There are also plans for other series that will feature other MCU heroes who haven’t yet gotten their own films.

The series will be reportedly overseen by Marvel Studios, with each having six to eight episodes. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has taken a hands-on role in their development.

So far, very few Marvel TV series have featured from the films, despite the shared MCU landscape. Marvel Studios and Marvel TV have operated as separated entities, with series like Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Agents of SHIELD.

In 2017, he served as creator and showrunner for the writers’ room on Heels, Starz’s pilot that centr on two rival brothers. Currently, he is developing Florida Man with Steven Soderbergh for Paramount Network and is writing and producing on the upcoming season of Cartoon Network’s acclaimed Rick and Morty.
