Simu Liu’s Old Problematic Posts Resurface That Have Put Him In Trouble
With fame comes a high risk of scrutiny by the audience which the Shang-Chi actor is currently paying. Simu Liu posted comments under username /u/nippedinthebud between 2013-2019 started making rounds on the Internet lately that have brought him under intense scrutiny. The posts were sexist and racist. For instance, one post reads, “I am all about gender equality however girls are just not as good as boys at sports. I play volleyball with a girl on the team I always get frustrated.” Another says, “From a biological standpoint [pedophilia] is no different than being gay – a small mutation in the genome that defines our sexual preferences.” This view which Liu claims developed after he was done researching for a role.
Simu Liu’s old posts are surely disgusting but he has garnered enough appreciation for his work that it has divided social media. Some came to his defense saying that these posts have been deliberately taken out of context to defame him. However, the actor hasn’t defended himself yet. But he has shared his Tweet of 2019 explaining that he tries to advocate positivity. He adds a disclaimer saying: “If you dig back far enough, I’m sure you’ll find a more immature version of me who gave in to anger and hate. It doesn’t make me a hypocrite; it makes me a human being. Mentalities evolve. We shift and we grow. And I want us all to grow the right way.” Even though he didn’t respond to any accusation directly, but he did try to put his stand on the controversy.
