Jennifer Lopez and Meghan Markle have a lot in common. Both have had sprawling careers in America (though Markle’s fades way too dimly in comparison to that of the Maid in Manhattan actress). Both want to be seen as successful representatives of POC. And another thing that binds them is having been on a double date with each other.

But despite all these things which bring them together, the two seem to be going their different ways. They were close once. But as the years pass by, things seemed to have changed. Why is it so?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were once close to Jennifer Lopez

The month of February and a double date to remember

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry separated from the royal family after making their desire to do so clear in an Instagram post on January 8, 2020. They made it apparent that from there onwards, they would look to spend their time in both the United Kingdom and North America.

The following month, the couple went on a double date with Jennifer Lopez and Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez. Guess this proves how important JLo is to North America. Their double date was a blast, and the two couples went home with happy memories. The meeting went so well that the Jenny on the Block singer even considered inviting the couple, with their child, Archie, to her Miami house.

The royal couple snubbed by Jennifer Lopez

That was supposed to be the start of a friendship for the ages. The royal couple had found a formidable personality with global reach, to have their back in the Americas. But their aspirations were handed a setback soon when JLo refused to invite them to her much anticipated wedding with beau Ben Affleck.

That came as quite a shock to the royal couple. But they still kept their dissatisfaction under wraps and tried to stretch their hands in friendship to ‘Bennifer’. Their hands were left hanging. Lopez has made it clear through her conduct that she is not interested in introducing them to the Goodwill Hunting star.

That must seem perplexing. Why not be friends with the members of the British royal family?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, C-listers?

Jennifer Lopez considers them C-Listers; hence wants to maintain distance from them

Ben Affleck and the Parker star’s decision to not engage with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was totally the latter’s decision. It must have come as a shock to them following how close they seemed originally. But it is how it is. And the reason? According to an insider, the Marry Me actor considers them C-Listers. That is why they were sidelined for the wedding, and are pushed back time and again by the newly married couple.

Not getting introduced to Ben Affleck was a bit hurtful to the estranged prince, revealed the source. His hopes of having a good friend in Affleck were dashed to the ground. The insider further said, “J.Lo didn’t even consider inviting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to the wedding. This is embarrassing for Meghan and a blow to Harry.”

Another reason behind the royal couple being sidelined is the fact that the Suits alum invited Mariah Carey to her podcast, Archetypes. The Queen of Christmas is an arch nemesis of the On the Floor singer. Choosing one over the other is a decision one must indeed make soundly. Ask Markle and Prince Harry.
