Batman And His Obsessive Contingency Plans For The Justice Leagues

Over the years, Batman has been so distrustful of his teammates that he has devised contingency plans to contain or defeat them. But that fell into the hands of Ra’s al Ghul. There’s also the fact that he has secret stocks of Kryptonite, just in case Superman needs to be killed.

But it was his plan to weaponize the moon at the beginning of the current series is what left fans as well as the League thinking that the Caped Crusader is crazy. But issue 26 shakes up this notion by revealing that there’s another team member who is way more twisted that Batman when it comes to war and that’s Hawkgirl.

Hawkgirl And Her Brutal Art Of War

Kendra Saunders has made her version of Hawkgirl stand tall and proud amongst her comrades. She is not just a warrior but a military strategist as well. This led her to become a key player when the League went to the Sixth Dimension. There they had to bargain with the World Forger to not end their reality but instead help them fight his mother, Perpetua.

Although now they’ve formed an ambitious alliance but tensions remain. They do know that Perpetua has almost an unlimited cosmic power with which she is preparing to reshape the galaxy. Now, with the Source Wall (her prison) destroyed and Lex Luthor converted into her new disciple, Apex; she has the means to do it. Just as the Justice Leagues looked to expand, we came to know that Kendra vetoed an unsavoury plan.
This plan involved invading the minds of every human alive and turning them into living weapons. It’s pretty easy to assume that some people wouldn’t want to be turned into living soldiers and if people agreed this is still a messed up idea. To make this plan a reality Hawkgirl tries to make her case for wanting J’onn J’onzz to use his telepathic abilities and download martial arts and killing skills info into every person alive.
It’s a purely selfish notion just so that she’d have soldiers on the front lines against Perpetua’s legion. Given that she’s been part of every war in history through her immortal life, Kendra tries to justify it to Mera and criticizes the League for abandoning the idea.

As expected this angers the league that she’d even think of such an idea. While Batman’s plans have some amount of logic to them, Hawkgirl is emotionally improvising and coming off haphazard in her thinking. The last thing the league needs is one of them going off the hinges like this, thus endangering them from the inside. Mera makes a good argument that this isn’t the way to win the impending war. But if Kendra’s stubborn attitude so far is anything to go by, she might have a wildcard play up her sleeve that could affect her future on the team.
