Spider-Man star Tom Holland believes No Way Home allowed co-star and former Spider-Man Andrew Garfield to make his peace with his character, Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Can we see more of Andrew Garfield?

In a recent interview with Marvel.com, Zendaya and Tom Holland, where the former plays MJ in the film, talked about the movie’s high-profile cameos. When the topic of discussion turned to Andrew Garfield, Holland revealed, “Andrew Garfield, the legend himself. He’s such a lovely guy. I think this film was his way of making peace with Spider-Man It was such a privilege to work with him. I know that it meant a lot to him.” Zendaya also added that it was quite beautiful to see Garfield, Tobey and Holland, bonding over the experience of playing Spider-Man.

No Way Home is set immediately after the events of 2019’s Far From Home and sees Peter seeking the help of Doctor Stephen Strange in making everyone forget his identity after it was exposed by Quentin Beck/Mysterio. However, the spell goes berserk and ends up bringing a number of villains from older Spider-Man films by Sony into the MCU. These villains include Lizard, played by Rhys Ifans, Electro from Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Eventually, the film sees Peter teaming up with Andrew Garfield’s Peter — also dubbed as the Amazing Spider-Man — and Tobey Maguire’s Peter, also known as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield’s Peter is still seen feeling guilt over the death of Gwen Stacy at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, he finds some solace during the final battle against their villains, as he catches MJ after she falls from the Statue of Liberty. While Garfield’s Spider-Man left the MCU at the end of the film, there are still many rumors about the character’s return in the future.

Andrew Garfield initially portrayed the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man when Sony rebooted its Spider-Man franchise with 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. Both The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel performed well at the box office but neither performed well critically and are considered as two of the weaker modern films to feature the wall-crawler. While there were plans for a third Amazing Spider-Man film and a spinoff later, which would have been centered on the Sinister Six after the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, these projects never came to life, and Holland went on to take on the role of the wall-crawler in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Marvel Studios and Sony struck a deal to share rights to the fan-favorite character.

Directed by Jon Watts from a script by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, Spider-Man: No Way Home is in theaters now.
