Following Taika Waititi directing stint on “The Mandalorian” and prior to him winning Academy Award for best adapted screenplay for “Jojo Rabbit”, a report emerged. Taika Waititi is directing a New Star Movie. The actor-filmmaker has already made a bigger name for himself with Thor: Ragnarok. It was a movie that proved Waiti’s unique style. The Mandalorian Season 1 also earned similar fame for Waititi’s distinct work.  Whereas the episode also saw Waititi reprise his role as the assassin robot named IG-11 from earlier in the season.

Lucasfilm has now officially confirmed Waititi is directing a new Star Wars movie. Waititi will co-write the film with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who wrote the World War I thriller 1917 with Sam Mendes. Moreover, Waititi and Wilson-Cains both were screenplay nominees at the Academy Awards earlier this year. Wilson-Cairns was put forward for the original script to 1917 and Waititi for his Nazi satire Jojo Rabbit. The news of Wilson’s involvement is as thrilling as Waititi. However, she is the very first woman hired for a Star Wars movie since Disney bought Lucasfilm.

With no release date set yet, it’s quite uncertain whether Waititi will direct the Star War Movie, which is likely to hit in December 2022.   Currently, the filmmaker is into pre-production on his next sequel to Ragnarok, Thor: Love and Thunder. Following this, it is seeming that he will be busy working on Love and Thunder for the next two years. But don’t dishearten yourselves Waititi will undoubtedly direct the new Star Wars Movie.
