It looks like there’s been an intriguing development within the production of Matt Reeves The Batman movie.

When production on the superhero film restarts, the production team have scrapped shooting on location in favour of shooting on freshly built sets. The Batman, which stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, isn’t due for release until 2021.

The movie had started shooting in London, earlier this year, with several snapped photos giving a tease of what is to come. However, The Batman, like every other major film production, was shut down due to the increase in Covid-19 cases. The pandemic has kept the production team from working since the end of March.

The coronavirus outbreak has resulted in the film being delayed until October 2021, pushed back four months from its original release date.

Now, film sets and productions have slowly begun to get back into gear. Of course, huge restrictions and safety guidelines are in play. The Batman was one of the big movies expected to announce its return to production.

However, according to Kris Tapley who is the host of Netflix’s The Call Sheet podcast, it seems the team behind The Batman are taking even more safety precautions. The production is set to resume in September, but ‘all locations’ have been scrapped.

The crew are building all the sets within a studio, presumably due to the pandemic. Building the sets allows for greater control of the locations and that can help prevent any exposure to the virus.

The Batman is set to do big things for the DC universe. Not only is it a departure from the main DCEU strand, but Reeves’ is also keen to expand his world in a Gotham P.D centred television series, too. The show will be overseen by Reeves and Terence Winter, of Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos fame.
