Will Smith may have been finally done with the DC Films franchise, but his character Deadshot will return for the sequel to Suicide Squad 2. And now, actor Idris Elba will come to play the role.
Idris Elba is the next Deadshot?
As per a new report via Variety, Idris Elba is already in talks to replace Will Smith for The Suicide Squad 2, after meeting with director James Gunn this past week.
The report suggests that the meeting between James Gunn and Idris Elba turned out pretty well, and talks with the studio began, making all of this a quick development in the replacement of Deadshot for the forthcoming film.
Margot Robbie to return as Harley Quinn
The new report states that Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie is supposed to come back to portray her role for the upcoming role. Other than Harley and Deadshot, the new film is going to feature more characters that take from the rotating cast of coerced supervillains from DC Comics.
It seems like Warner Bros is eager enough to make some casting decisions, hoping to begin production soon. The report suggests that the studio is really excited with the script penned down by James Gunn.
After Smith’s exit was confirmed last week, Justin Kroll of Variety indicated that Warner Bros was still deciding that Warner Bros were still thoughtful whether to recast Deadshot or not.
“One item I forgot to add to story, sources say execs are now deciding whether they will recast the role or replace Deadshot with a different character from the DC universe to join the team in sequel,” Kroll wrote.
The decision didn’t really take too long, thanks to the sudden meeting between Gunn and Elba. Now it seems like The Suicide Squad is back on track with its core roster decided. It’s yet to be seen which characters will return, such as Amanda Walker’s Viola Davis.
