The Witcher- an upcoming Netflix original series- has certainly kept a huge amount of audience up on its toes. It is revealed to be an American-Polish fantasy drama, to be released late in 2019. The story is of a mutated monster hunter named Geralt; a witcher who gets exposed to the darkest secrets of the modern world.
Henry Cavill as the protagonist
Not long ago was it announced that Henry Cavill- formerly renowned for his outstanding performance as Superman in a number of DC sequels- will be playing the role of Geralt. However, this is not where the story ends.
Insights to how he got the role
In one of his interviews with Entertainment Tonight at the San Diego Comic-Con, Cavill very openly revealed how he truly got the role of the protagonist in the upcoming series. From the moment of the announcement of the role, Henry was eager to get his hands on it.“I called them every day and said, ‘Guys, now? Meeting now? How ’bout now?’ And they eventually said, ‘Look, they’ve brought on a showrunner, and we’ve called them, and they said, ‘Look, we’re not even close to that process yet,’ and I kept on pushing, pushing, pushing, and eventually I think Netflix just got tired,” he very honestly explained.
It was further revealed that Netflix looked at over 200 actors before casting Cavill. “And so, it was then — I think it was a four-month break or something after that?” he added. “And I was just hoping that when they came round all the other casting and everything — and it’s important that the right casting process is done; you can’t just hire the first person who walks into the room. I was fortunate enough to land the role after my audition, which was fun. It was nerve-racking obviously, because I really, really, really wanted it. But got there in the end, and here I am now.”
As much as Henry wanted the role, it is safe to say that Netflix made a great decision by picking him. As an actor, he has been presenting his audience with outstanding performances for a long time. If he works with all the passion that he is expressing for the role, this show could be a big break for his professional career.
