The Oscar-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg wasn’t entirely happy about her movie Till not being on the 2023 Oscar nomination list. Being the Academy Awards board member who represents the Actors Branch previously slammed the Academy for failing to recognize Chinonye Chukwu’s Till. During her morning show, after the Oscar nominations were announced, The View host took the opportunity to show her frustration over her film not being nominated.

However, recently after the Academy Awards ceremony took place, Whoopi Goldberg came in defense of the Oscars. In an episode of The View, Goldberg was found defending the event, after people slammed the award show for being a place for rich people to celebrate.

After the Oscars 2023, took place, people all over the world have been discussing the winners and the glamorous event overall. The morning show The View, therefore decided to dedicate a few discussions to the event. Bringing up the moderator’s speech, the ladies of the show further went on to discuss the highlights of the Sunday gala. Mentioning the names of the winners like Brendan Fraser, Michelle Yeoh, and Jamie Lee Curtis, The View hosts event spoke about the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Soon Whoopi Goldberg was spotted taking the opportunity of defending the Oscars after people slammed it for all the unnecessary glitz and glam. “I just want to point out that the Oscars is a celebration of artistry celebrating artistry,” Goldberg began defending. Further, she shared, “It’s not actors patting themselves on the back, it’s the art. Not everybody can do what actors do or what people who write music for movies or people who make the costumes. It’s an art form.”

Learning about the Oscars being trolled by people, Whoopi Goldberg jumped in to defend the event. Irrespective of previously slamming the Oscars for not identifying her movie Till as worthy of nomination, Goldberg stood in support of the Academy Awards.

Whoopi Goldberg Previously Slammed The Oscars 

Hitting right at the place where people slammed the Oscars, Whoopi Goldberg jumped in to defend the event. “So the next time you hear somebody say, ‘Oh, it’s just a lot of rich people celebrating,’ remember what you saw last night,” Goldberg defended. She further concluded stating, “It wasn’t a lot of rich people celebrating. It was a lot of actors who got to the pinnacle of where we feel we can go. That is a great thing.” Throwing light on the enigmatic moments that made people shed honest tears, Goldberg mentioned, awards shows such as the Oscars should always be hosted and never be banned.

Despite slamming the Oscars previously, Whoopi Goldberg came in defense of the show. She mentioned diligently while hosting The View, how the Oscars “don’t always get it right,” but they are at least trying and “heading in the right direction”. Whoopi Goldberg acted and produced, Chinonye Chukwu’s Till, which she expected to get nominated. But disappointed with her film not being on the nomination list, the actress brought out her frustration and slammed the Oscars.

However, she eventually came in defense of the event and was supported by her co-host Sunny Hostin. Noting her co-host’s defensive points Hostin jumped in to mention Goldberg’s achievement as an Oscar-winning actress for the 1990s movie Ghost. Goldberg thus concluded her statement by telling people to celebrate their passion, and therefore, slamming the Oscar trolls.
