Fans have always had questions about Doctor Manhattan‘s role ever since the announcement of the HBO series Watchmen. The story of the show is separate from the graphic novel of the same name. The events in the novel are canon, but the characters and events of the show are new. The pilot episode of the show aired on October 20. The first episode was received well by the audience and fetched favourable reviews.

The forthcoming episodes preview

The preview released by HBO seems to reveal Doctor Manhattan. The character might make an appearance in the forthcoming weeks. The blue-skinned man with superpowers gained during a freak accident is a fan favourite. The preview depicts a man with blue hands sitting on a table in a house that looks like Adrain Veidt’s. We know of only one character with blue skin in the series. The character made a lone but impressive appearance in episode one where he destroyed a structure on Mars.

The showrunner for the series, Damon Lindelof, definitely has something up his sleeve for Doctor Manhattan as is evident from his statements to Entertainment Weekly, which went thus:

“I started to think that for Watchmen may be the more interesting point is to think about masking and authority and policing as an adjunct to superheroes,” and “In Watchmen, nobody has superpowers — the only super-powered individual is Dr. Manhattan and he’s not currently on the planet.”

It looks like the coming weeks will tell us more. The new episodes of the series air on Sundays.
