Supernatural might be over at the moment, but its fandom is continuing to live on, thanks to a forthcoming prequel. As seen in the past, Supernatural, which was a hit on CW – attempted and eventually failed to bring spin-offs together, but The CW is trying its best again to get the Winchester family’s charms back on our screens again. And now, a prequel that lends its focus on Mary and John Winchester has been finally greenlit and The Winchesters has found its lead actors.

As per a new report by The Hollywood Reporter, Meg Donnelly has been cast as young Mary Winchester whereas actor Drake Rodger will be playing the role of John. These actors will be seen joining Jensen Ackles in the series – who played Dean Winchester in the original series as he is narrating the prequel in The Winchesters.

If you are not a Supernatural fan and aren’t familiar with The Winchesters, here’s something for you to remember:

This prequel will be narrated from Dean’s point of view as he goes through his parents’ lives and an even more complicated romance. The story of this untold romance shall follow John and Mary even before they had met each other, explaining how they got along together, sacrificing everything to finally save the world.

A brief character description has also been released by The CW for its leads with Mary being described as a young 19-year-old woman, fighting against all odds. The heroine has “been fighting the forces of darkness for most of her life. After losing someone close to her, she considers quitting the family business – until her father’s disappearance and the arrival of newcomer John Winchester forces her to lead a new team.”

As for John, the series will be following him once he arrives home from Vietnam. “Selfless and clear-headed, he finds a new mission back home, where traces of his father’s past lead him to a secret organization and a whole new war as a hunter,” the blurb says.

At the present moment, we do not have a set release window for The Winchesters, but a tentative episode order has been approved by The CW for production. So, just in case – you’ve been missing Supernatural and its family adventures, this highly-anticipated prequel might just be the right way to satisfy your craving!
