The two were asked why they “hate the Hulk,” to which they both jokingly replied by saying they “nerfed the Hulk” because they “just didn’t know what to do with him” in Avengers: Endgame. They said,

Joe: “Oh, we nerfed the Hulk. We nerfed him. We just didn’t know what to do with him. We were like, ’What, this big powerful character. What we do with this big powerful character?
Anthony: “Can you find out who wrote this question? I’d like to talk to them.
A person on the set: “What would you say to them?
Joe: “To say to people who think we nerfed the Hulk? He deserved it. Lots of controversial… Marvel fans responding.

They were also asked why they decided to kill Loki and Iron Man, and they jokingly said that they both “deserved to die.”

The Russo Brothers also talked about who they thought the strongest Avenger was. They said, “Wanda, at one point…Captain Marvel, another point,” but were one hundred percent sure that hulk is not on top of the list.

Joe: “We said, Wanda, at one point. Captain Marvel, another point. Thor.
Anthony: “Certainly never said it’s the Hulk.
Joe: “Certainly not the Hulk. He’d be low on the list. Like right underneath Groo. Remember Groo the Wanderer? He’s like just below Groo the Wanderer.

Fans were disappointed to see that the Hulk got nerfed in Avengers: Endgame

Joe and Anthony Russo decided to nerf the Hulk in Avengers: Endgame

Bruce Banner/the Hulk has not played a major role in the MCU since his appearance as Professor Hulk in Avengers: Endgame but will appear in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law as the character plays a key role in the series which comes out in August 2022. Bruce Banner’s last official appearance in the MCU was in the post-credits scene of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Fans of the Hulk were very disappointed to see that Hulk was nerfed in Avengers: Endgame but the point made by the Russo brothers makes sense as fitting a massive green monster fit into a story about losing half of the universe was a tough job. It was certainly a massive problem that the Russo brothers faced during the writing process. The fact that somehow figured out how to make the Hulk make sense in the movie should be celebrated because some thought they will never hear from Banner’s alter-ego again.
