Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Scarlet Witch in the Avengers franchise believe that the nightmare she inflicted upon Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark in Avengers: Age of Ultron signalled doom by Ultron instead of Thanos.

“I don’t know. I don’t know if that’s what could have happened if Ultron took over,” Olsen said.

“I’m not sure. I think it’s up to interpretation. It wasn’t something that I remember someone was saying that we’re going to go full circle to Infinity War — there wasn’t an Infinity War at that time [laughs]. But I think I always thought of it is what would happen if Ultron won. But I think it’s more interesting the way you’re thinking about it.”

“Well,” Hiddleston countered, “maybe Tony has got the long view.”

Age of Ultron saw the debut of Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe where Ultron uses her mind-bending powers to implant horrific visions in the mind of heroes, including Tony Stark. Stark sees the Chitauri soaring over his slain teammates, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk and Hawkeye. Interestingly, all these characters survived the deadly snap in Infinity War.

Tony Stark was deeply affected by the events of The Avengers in Iron Man 3, and these events were essentially put into motion by Thanos, who was then acting behind-the-curtains when he sent Loki and an invading Chitauri army to Earth. He was plagued by his deepest fears again when Bruce Banner warns him of Thanos in the opening scene of the film.

Avengers 4 hits the theatres on May 3.
