Top Gun Becomes Highest Streaming Title After Sequel’s Soaring Success
Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to Top Gun released in 1986 hit the box office with a bang and won thousands of hearts. Veteran Actor Tom Cruise plays the role of the film stars Captain Pete Mitchell, as the lead, along with actors Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer.

This success of the sequel proved to be a raise for the original Top Gun released in 1986. People probably had a curiosity that make them seek the previous film. Top Gun (1986) now makes a place at the top of the U.S. streaming charts this week. The Jerry Bruckheimer film was also the most popular streaming title for the week. Moreover, the film is currently No. 1 on Apple’s iTunes movie charts in the United States. Until Friday, ‘Top Gun’ stood at the fourth spot on Prime Video’s Top 10 titles in the United States. Although, people seemed to have found the sequel more impressive than the original film.
In a similar case like this, during the release week of the new season of Netflix’s successful series Stranger Things 4, the viewership of the prior seasons rose. The release made the prior seasons, get featured in Netflix’s global and the United States Top 10. They were one of the Top 10 viewed programs of the week same as Strange Things 4.
Top Gun: Maverick at Cannes Film Festival
After the release of Top Gun: Maverick, Eammon Jacobs took it to Twitter to call the film a “Pure Cinema”. The viewers are of the opinion that they got to see the same persistent energy and a genuine sense of action in the film. It was regarded with terms like, “That’s how you make a sequel” and “Pure Cinematic Entertainment”. The film also made a screening at the Cannes Film Festival held on May 18, 2022. It received a five-minute long-standing ovation from the audience. Tom Cruise was awarded an Honorary Palme d’Or award for the film and his performance after decades.
