Venom continues to attract fans and earn lots of money at the box office globally and now has also surpassed every X-Men film till date. Many fans didn’t take Venom too seriously at the time of its release and there are many reasons behind that. Sony has been trying to put together a Venom film since years now, so when we heard about it, we weren’t surprised. However, the fact that Spider-Man wasn’t going to be there made many fans believe that it will flop at the box office.

But the film, as we all know, has been anything but a flop. Despite earning negative views from the critics, Venom has attracted general audiences. It could be due to Tom Hardy’s star status but whatever the reason is, the film has gained immense success in the United States. It also broke October’s record in the US but is also the highest grossing superhero film to ever find its way in China.

Thanks to China, Venom has now reached $783.86 million at the worldwide box office, which means that it has now earned more than any X-Men franchise film, including Deadpool which made $783.1 million in ’16. Considering that this is a spinoff film many thought that it would fail but its incredible performance justifies its existence and will probably spawn Sony’s own universe of Marvel Characters.

However, Venom hasn’t beaten every X-Men film with regards to the domestic gross. By the seventh weekend, Venom made $210 million in the US. This places Venom between X-Men Origins: Wolverine ($179.8 million) and X2: X-Men United which earned $214.9 million. However, Venom has made enough to justify its $100 million production budget.

Venom has also passed Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 ($783.8 million) after already surpassing Mark Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man ($757.9 million) and its sequel which made $709 million. For now, it seems likely that Venom 2 will also find its way soon, not to forget their other spinoff films under development right now.
