Venom usually goes toe to toe with Spider-Man, but this week will see Venom going off against Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

The new film by Sony Pictures is trying to maintain its top spot over the second weekend, but the building buzz for A Star Is Born may knock Venom down to the second spot. A report from Variety predicts that Venom will stay on the top with $30 million this weekend.

However, a report of Thursday placed A Star Is Born in the lead, with the critically acclaimed film earning $4.5 million while Venom made $4.33 million.

Venom started its journey with a blast, making $80 million over its first weekend. If what’s given in the report by Variety holds true, Venom will be the repeated winner at the box office for the second straight week.

Despite being a hit among fans, Venom has been condemned by the critics. The film has a couple of plot holes, as pointed out by critics, wherein one scene the Riot symbiote managed to stay inside the same host in Malaysia for six months, going against the logic.

“That’s one of our few–hopefully–few logic bumps,” director Ruben Fleischer said to Gamespot. “But we had to have a passage of time in order to show Eddie’s downfall, and that was the one thing that doesn’t entirely track. But I like to think that old lady was going around murdering all throughout Malaysia, and she was just having a good old time just shooting shards through different people in Malaysia.”

Negatives aside, fans are totally in for a Venom sequel, as the end credits of the film teased Carnage, played by actor Woody Harrelson.

“So, when we were thinking about including that scene and laying the groundwork for a potential sequel, he was the first person I thought of and a just because selfishly I’m really excited to work with him again, whether it’s in Zombieland 2 or the potential sequel to this film,” Fleischer told “But if you think about Natural Born Killers and Mickey, the character he played in that film, I feel like there’s a real lineage that you can trace from Mickey to Cletus and I also think that he hasn’t gone dark in that way for a while.”
