It seems like Gavin O’ Connor will no longer be helming Suicide Squad, his story was way too similar to another DC project. DC started its shared universe with 2016’s BvS: Dawn of Justice, followed by David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and Justice League.

Suicide Squad some big names like Margot Robbie, Will Smith and Jared Leto. While the film could be a critical success, it was commercially successful. This is exactly why the company started planning a sequel to it. However, a few spinoffs are also under-development, for instance, Birds of Prey, which will make its way to the box office in 2020.

According to Variety, Gavin O’ Connor’ script was turned down by DC as it resembled Birds of Prey, directed by Cathy Yan. This resulted in Gavin’s frustration before he left.

Now, new reports from The Wrap and THR suggest that Guardians of The Galaxy director James Gunn is in talks with Warner Bros for the film. Gunn was earlier fired by Marvel after his decade-old tweets on rape and paedophilia resurfaced.

This shouldn’t come off as a surprise as Gunn started his career with Warner Bros’ Scooty Doo live-action film in the 2000’s.

Stay tuned for more updates.
