Writer-director Taika Waititi is back again with the forthcoming movie Thor: Love and Thunder which will be released this week however fans are in disbelief with the ratings the movie received even though the movie is ‘independent’ as per the director. Thor: Love and Thunder will be the fourth sequel of Thor in the MCU which will be set post-2019’s Avengers: Endgame events where Thor is seeking inner peace away from the usual action, he appeared in the other Thor movies. However, he would ultimately be back as the God of Thunder fans know with Jane Foster who will be debuting in the movie as Mighty Thor along with a strong antagonist Gorr The God Butcher who will debut in the MCU with Thor 4.

Though Waititi’s second Thor movie in the MCU has been highly anticipated given that the filmmaker had worked on good projects, critics can’t help but feel that Thor’s fourth sequel is still lacking behind 2017’s Ragnarok. Though they are certainly pointing out that the lively and funny nature is what adds the charm to this movie.

Thor 4 rotten tomatoes scores have been released with 69% ‘fresh’ score but if we compare it with other MCU movies, it still stands on average. However, this may change as the movie is yet to release in the theatres. One critic wrote, “Thor: Love and Thunder is trying hard to do a lot of things but in the end gets lost in itself.” While, David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter stated, “The movie feels weightless, flippant, instantly forgettable, sparking neither love nor thunder.”

Apart from critics, fans are also pointing out the upcoming Chris Hemsworth’s Love and Thunder. Check out the tweets below.

Writer-director Taika Waititi recently shared a glimpse of the upcoming Thor 4 where he mentioned the movie as ‘independent,’ however, fans are puzzled by this indie movie. He wrote, “If you don’t watch this movie it means you hate fun and art and independent cinema. One week ya mongrels. July 8. #thorloveandthunder.” For the unversed, An independent film or indie movie is a feature film that is produced outside the major film studio system. It also involves the filmmakers’ personal artistic vision which can be seen in the content and style of the movie is made.

Fans commented on the same Instagram post-Waititi shared by mentioning the movie as an indie one, where one fan wrote, “Hahah have I misunderstood what independent cinema means mayhaps,” while the other wrote, “I get the fun and art, but independent cinema???” Another fan shared, “I mean, it will be the only film showing in the whole theater that weekend so, I guess that makes it independent.”

As MCU is more in experimental mode, they are restraining the creative control of the filmmakers which is making the outcome not up to the mark. However, if they were to be given full creative control, we would get a great result as what we expect from one of the biggest entertainment franchises.

Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder will be released on July 8 in theaters.
