Rihanna returned to the spotlight for the Superbowl Halftime show after a five-year absence.

In September 2022, it was announced that Rihanna would perform at the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, giving fans a break from the Chiefs-Eagles game to get acquainted with her again. And she did so once more. The show was well-received with some anti-gravity performances and a hit-filled playlist that delighted viewers.

What made her performance even more unique? Her second pregnancy announcement, of course. That will certainly be remembered in the history of Super Bowl Halftime Shows. To say that ‘Super Bowl 57’ featured an exciting performance would be an understatement.

But there was also an exception, which would undoubtedly make it memorable.

As the ‌hitmaker hasn’t put out a new album since 2016 and her last live performance was in January 2018. Rihanna is aware of this, of course, which led to extensive planning for the Halftime performance.

While fans appeared to be thrilled to see the 34-year singer back in the spotlight, it turns out that some viewers found her and that of her backup dancers’ performance to be ‘too p*rnographic.’

Rihanna’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Got 103 Complaints

Rihanna’s halftime performance at Super Bowl LVII outraged some viewers, and they flooded the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) with complaints

The Super Bowl broadcast this month has received at least 103 complaints, almost all of which were in reference to RiRi’s halftime performance, according to the website TMZ. The choreography and lyrics were allegedly overly s*xualized, and some viewers even made comparisons to p*rn, per the complaints.

There were undoubtedly countless possibilities when the Love the Way You Lie singer took the stage as she revealed on February 8 that she had 39 different potential setlists for her performance.

One Californian viewer compared the performance to Kim Petras and Sam Smith’s earlier February appearance at the 65th Grammy Awards, which they were upset about. The Golden State viewer penned,

“I don’t care what anyone worships, but children shouldn’t be exposed to p*rnography, and as an adult, I don’t wish to see it,” along with the question, “Where has decency gone?”

The halftime show was so offensive that a viewer in Utah felt compelled to turn the TV off due to the p*rnographic content. The focus of many of the criticisms was not the 35-year-old singer, who made her pregnancy announcement during the performance, but rather the allegedly “overtly s*xual dancing” of her and her backup dancers, which were in accordance with the explicit nature of some of her lyrics.

The dance moves, in fact, “were patently offensive and completely inappropriate for children,” according to some viewers who complained.

RiRi’s Performance Was ‘Too Sexy’ For Many Viewers

The Barbados native allegedly received complaints from viewers who claimed that she “spread her a** cheek at the crack” and “rubbed her pants where her l*bia were three times” despite the fact that she didn’t go all out with the dancing while pregnant.

The pregnant singer was the center of attention in the opening shot of the show. Rihanna was dressed in a red jumpsuit that completely covered her body. The pop star continued by performing portions of six of her hit songs, including Where Have You Been, Only Girl (In The World), We Found Love, Rude Boy, as well as the opener B*tch Better Have My Money.

Her performance was undoubtedly considered mild in comparison to Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson’s infamous 2004 ‘Super Bowl XXXVIII’ wardrobe mishap at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.

On the personal front, since 2020, the Diamonds singer has been dating ASAP Rocky, a rapper and record executive, and the couple is now expecting their second child. In May 2020, the couple welcomed a son into the world, making them proud parents to one already.
