Jane Zhang has drawn a lot of people’s ire. She is at the heart of the storm after news surfaced that she has infected herself with COVID. Deliberately, that is. And what is her reason for choosing to get infected?
She ‘chose’ to get infected with COVID just so that she wouldn’t have to deal with any possible infection in time for New Year’s celebration. Her name is making the rounds for all the wrong reasons. But there arises an important question – who is she?
Jane Zhang had her ‘dream’ come true
A Chinese singer of great fame, Jane Zhang, has drawn a lot of criticism from social media platforms for her decision to get infected with COVID-19, in order to ensure that she is fit for her New Year’s concert. She shared her decision on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform. Something which she probably shouldn’t have done.
She said, “I’ve been prepared for being infected.” A wise decision indeed. The Dream It Possible star showed that she intended to get infected just before. She was ‘open’ to the idea. And guess what? Her wish came true. She was soon diagnosed (by herself, that is) with symptoms of COVID.
Jane Zhang gets candid about her COVID diagnosis
She said, “Then I began to catch a fever, my throat began to ache, my nose began to ache, my whole body began to ache, my head began to ache…before I finally fell asleep.” She would soon go to regret that post.
Continuing the post, she said, “I am not sure if it’s appropriate to ask, but does my case with symptoms lasting for only one day count as Coronavirus (COVID) positive?” This public consultation would soon come back to bite her. The world is currently reeling under the pressure of COVID. And Zhang’s actions show her disrespect for the work undertaken by all the health personnel.
Had no option but to apologize after facing massive trolling
Zhang faced massive trolling in the aftermath of this post. She was shown the mirror by a lot of people in the light of her posts. As a celebrity, you owe a responsibility to the people at large to exhibit exemplary behavior. But that wasn’t something she did. Zhang did something unacceptable by making her decision to ‘get infected’ public.
The 38-year-old has built a successful career in the music industry after making efforts over a period of two decades. A star of her stature setting a precedent like this is not at all acceptable. She had to eventually apologize for her actions. But an apology can’t undo what she has done.
